Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a speech on Independence Day at Red Fort lasting 90 minutes, which is considered a long speech by any prime minister. His shortest speech was for 55 minutes in 2017, and his longest one was for 94 minutes in 2016.

PM Modi, who is up for re-election as the country’s leader for the third time, has assured the nation that it will become the third largest economy in the world during his third tenure. It is to be noted here that India, with 3.7 trillion dollars, is currently in 5th place after the US (26.8 trillion), China (19.3), Japan (4.4), and Germany (4.3). S&P and Morgan Stanley have said that India is expected to surpass Germany and Japan to hold the third rank by the end of this decade.
On Manipur:
“I want to tell the people of Manipur that the country is with you,” he said during his speech. Also added was violence, people losing their lives, and mothers and sisters being dishonored.
A must-know about Manipur is that in May 2023, the state witnessed violent clashes between two communities, Kuki and Metei.
India has emerged as a friend of world:
Remembering the era of COVID-19 PM Modi said that India helped different countries during crises as a Vishwamitra (friend of the world). He said that India is the world’s friend who doesn’t think just about itself. After COVID, India advocated for one earth, one health approach.”
Viswakarma yojana:
The government will launch a “Viswakarma Yojana” next month with an allocation of at least 13,000 crore for those with traditional skills. The scheme will focus on skilled workers such as barbers, goldsmiths, washermen, etc.
Mission 2047:
Setting a target of 2047 to make India a developed nation, the Prime Minister said the next five years will be crucial to ensuring that the country’s aspirations are met by the time it celebrates 100 years of independence.
Also, he said, Demography, Democracy, and Diversity: The PM underlined India’s demographic strength, coupled with its democracy and diversity, can help power its development journey.
