AIADMK and BJP part ways

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) of Tamil Nadu has cut all links with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) as of Monday, 25 Sep 2023. A major change in the political climate of the state would result from this judgment, which comes before the vital Lok Sabha elections.

This significant party gathering saw the AIADMK make this historic choice under the direction of General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami. After being voted unanimously, the resolution to sever all relations with the BJP shocked the political establishment.

The disagreement between the AIADMK and the BJP can be attributed to K Annamalai, the state chief of the BJP. An uproar of criticism resulted from Annamalai’s remarks, which were directed against respected leaders CN Annadurai and J Jayalalithaa.

Past people interpreted Annamalai’s claim that “many administrations of Tamil Nadu were corrupt, with former chief ministers convicted in courts of law” as an attack on the AIADMK’s own history, especially that of the late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.

The split was further widened by Annamalai’s statement that CN Annadurai attacked Hinduism during a gathering in Madurai in 1956. In a forceful response, the AIADMK said that such comments were unacceptable and against the party’s core principles.

People are enjoying after breakup with BJP

The BJP’s plans to forge a significant presence in South India have been dashed by the AIADMK’s decision to leave the NDA. The ideological divide between Dravidian and Sanatan Dharma continues to be a sore spot in this political drama. K P Munusamy, the AIADMK’s deputy coordinator, stressed the party’s dedication to its ideals. “AIADMK unanimously passed a resolution,” he said. The AIADMK has severed all relations with the BJP and NDA. For the past year, the BJP’s state leadership has consistently made unwarranted comments regarding our cadres, our general secretary EPS, and our former leaders.

Finally, it should be noted that the AIADMK’s decision to cut ties with the BJP and the NDA marks a significant turning point in Tamil Nadu’s political history. It displays the party’s commitment to preserving its history and maintaining its ideals, laying the way for a compelling contest in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The effects of this decision will undoubtedly be felt throughout the state.
